Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that the identity and culture of Assam; the state’s “Jati” and “Mati” have been damaged under the BJP government. He was speaking at a Congress programme in Dhakuakhana, where many people from the BJP and AGP joined the Congress.
Gaurav Gogoi said that the people of Assam have faced hardship under the BJP rule for the last ten years. He said that people now feel that both land and identity are at risk. According to him, the BJP government has allowed syndicate activities to grow, and people believe that this system is being run from powerful political offices.
He said that the Jati Bachao, Mati Bachao programme was meant to protect Assamese land, language and culture. He added that the Congress will continue to speak for the people on these issues.
Gaurav Gogoi also said that the Congress is confident of coming to power in Assam in the coming election. He praised the role of the Youth Congress, saying that young party workers are working hard across the state.
He alleged that most government schemes under the BJP were filled with corruption, and common people still need to go to MLAs to get basic benefits. He said that Congress would try to end this system if it forms the government.
He also expressed concern over the rise of drugs and alcohol among the youth. He said that the future of young people must be protected and that the administration should act strictly to save the next generation.
During the programme, Congress leaders said that hundreds of people from BJP and AGP have joined the party in Dhakuakhana. They claimed that this shows a loss of support for the ruling parties in the region.
Gaurav Gogoi said that the people of Assam have now seen what ten years of BJP rule looks like, and many people feel that their jati, mati and community life have become weaker. He said that the Congress wants to restore dignity and security to the people.
He also said that Congress workers are going from village to village to listen to the people. According to him, the party wants to build an administration where common people do not have to plead in front of political leaders for basic rights.
The Congress leaders at the event said that the party wants to protect the land of poor and ordinary families and ensure that nobody loses land unfairly. They also said that the party will continue to speak against corruption and syndicate activities.
