Assam Congress president and Lok Sabha MP from Jorhat Gaurav Gogoi has condemned the arson attack on the parental house of Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, and appealed to the people of Karbi Anglong to maintain peace and restraint.

Reacting to the incident, Gogoi said that setting fire to anyone’s house cannot be justified under any circumstance. He described the act as condemnable and said such violence only damages society and weakens democratic values. He urged people to stay calm during this difficult time and work towards resolving issues through dialogue and democratic means.

“The incident of arson at the parental home of Tuliram Ronghang is not justifiable. It deserves strong censure. I appeal to the people of Karbi Anglong to maintain patience and uphold peace and harmony,” Gogoi said in his statement.

He further warned that violent forms of protest send a wrong message and often create more problems instead of solutions. Stressing the importance of peaceful methods, Gogoi said history has repeatedly shown that non-violence is more powerful than violence. He appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands and to move forward through lawful and democratic protest.

Meanwhile, the situation in parts of West Karbi Anglong remained tense following violent protests over the long-pending eviction issue related to Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) and Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) land. Unrest was reported from Kheroni and nearby areas, prompting the district administration to impose Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
