Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha MP from Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi today expressed deep sorrow over the passing away of veteran journalist Prafulla Govinda Baruah, describing his death as a major loss not only for the media fraternity but for Assam’s public life as a whole.
In a condolence message, Gogoi said he was “deeply saddened” by the demise of Shri Prafulla Govinda Baruah, a senior journalist, Editor of The Assam Tribune, and one of the most respected figures in Assam’s media landscape. He noted that with Baruah’s passing, an important chapter in the history of journalism in the state has come to an end.
Gogoi said that Prafulla Govinda Baruah’s contribution went far beyond his role at The Assam Tribune. According to him, Baruah was a guiding presence in Assam’s public life, someone who played the role of a guardian through his writing, editorial leadership, and lifelong commitment to truthful and responsible journalism. He said the loss would be felt not just within the Tribune family, but across society.
“For me personally, Shri Baruah’s presence was always a source of insight and enduring value,” Gogoi said, recalling the senior journalist’s influence and wisdom. He added that Baruah’s voice carried clarity, balance, and a deep understanding of Assam and its people.
The Assam Congress President also extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members of Prafulla Govinda Baruah. He expressed solidarity with every member of The Assam Tribune group, stating that the entire media community stands together in this moment of grief.
