Strong reactions have been reported across Assam following the detention of a youth from Gauripur for an alleged social media post that supported a violent incident in neighboring Bangladesh. The action comes at a time when protests and condemnation are continuing across parts of India over the killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh.

According to police, the detained youth has been identified as Babul Hussain, a resident of Baniyamari Sixth Block village under the Gauripur area of Assam. Officials said Hussain had recorded a video and uploaded it on social media, in which he allegedly expressed support for the recent lynching incident in Bangladesh.

The incident that triggered widespread outrage involves the killing of Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu youth, in the Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. The killing reportedly took place in Mymensingh and has drawn strong reactions from various communities, political leaders, and social organisations in India.

Police sources said that soon after the video from Gauripur began circulating online, local authorities took note of its content. The video allegedly not only showed support for the violent act in Bangladesh but also included objectionable remarks related to a religious occasion, Uruz Mubarak, and members of the Hindu community. Based on this, the police moved quickly and took the youth into custody for questioning.

Following the detention, several local organisations and community groups in the Gauripur area demanded strict action. They stated that such content could disturb communal harmony and spread tension at a time when emotions are already running high due to the incident in Bangladesh. Some groups also urged people to remain calm and avoid sharing or reacting to provocative content on social media.
