A man staged a protest in front of Janata Bhawan in Guwahati today demanding justice for popular singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away in September this year. During the demonstration, the protester accused Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, and Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita of being responsible for the singer’s death.
The individual, identified as Mantu Dutta, a resident of Jorhat, carried a poster of Zubeen Garg and shouted slogans against the Chief Minister while wearing a traditional dhoti and kurta. Dispur police quickly intervened and arrested him on the spot, escorting him away from the protest site.
Zubeen Garg’s death, which was initially reported as a tragic accident, has now become a focal point of public debate and speculation. Allegations of foul play and negligence have surfaced, creating widespread concern in Assam. Many fans and citizens are closely following the ongoing investigation, seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding the singer’s untimely demise.
The Assam CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) is continuing its probe into the case. Several people connected to Garg’s last trip, including Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief coordinator of the North East India Festival, and Siddharth Sharma, Garg’s manager, are currently in police custody as part of the investigation.
