Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met a delegation of the Adivasi Samanvaya Samiti Bharat from Assam at the Jharkhand Assembly and held a long and detailed conversation on the issues faced by Adivasi communities living in Assam. The delegation shared concerns about what they described as years of neglect, social and economic hardship, and a growing sense of insecurity among Adivasi groups working in the state’s tea gardens.
According to the Chief Minister, the meeting focused on problems related to identity, rights, poor wages, land matters, and the overall condition of the Adivasi population in Assam. Soren said the delegation had explained how many families continue to struggle for recognition, fair opportunities and basic protections that they believe are essential for their future.
After the discussion, Soren assured them that the Jharkhand government would take “positive steps at every level” to support their rights and safeguard their culture and traditions. He also announced that a team from Jharkhand would travel to Assam soon to study the situation on the ground and speak with affected communities directly.
The Chief Minister said that Jharkhand is committed to helping secure ST status for the Adivasi community in Assam, along with fair daily wages and lasting solutions to land-related disputes. He added that the social, economic and educational progress of Adivasis remains a top priority for his government, and that efforts would continue to ensure their dignity and future.
