Hundreds of residents who were earlier evicted from Charuabakhra and Santoshpur areas staged a protest on Friday in front of the Bilasipara Sub-Divisional Officer’s office, raising concerns over the ongoing Special Revision (SR) process linked to the electoral roll.

The protest was organised by the Bilasipara Block Youth Congress and was joined by families who said they are already living under difficult conditions after previous eviction drives. The protesters alleged that the administration is continuing to trouble them in the name of the SR process, even though many of them have lost their homes and sources of livelihood.

During the demonstration, protesters raised slogans demanding justice and relief for the affected families. They said the SR process has created fear and confusion among people who are still struggling to resettle after being evicted. According to them, repeated visits by officials and verification drives have added to their hardship.

Representatives of the protesting families submitted a memorandum to the Bilasipara Sub-Divisional Officer and the Election Officer. In the memorandum, they urged the authorities to take immediate steps to ease their situation ahead of the upcoming elections.

The main demand raised by the protesters was that polling stations in the affected areas should be relocated, instead of forcing the evicted families to move again. They said many families no longer live in their original locations and relocating polling stations would help ensure their participation in the electoral process without further displacement.

The protesters also issued a warning, stating that if their demand is not met by December 18, they would intensify their agitation and launch a larger mass movement across the region.
