The Manipur Government has issued a strong warning to groups that are allegedly trying to create fear and disturb peace in the State. The Home Department released a press note on December 4, saying that some organisations have been threatening and intimidating ordinary citizens. Officials said that the State Police have already started taking action against these anti-social elements.

The government stated that any act that tries to frighten people or puts their safety at risk is an attack on the State and its citizens. It said that no individual, group, or organisation — whether banned or not — has the right to issue orders, declare punishments, or interfere with lawful cultural, economic, or artistic activities in Manipur. The press note made it clear that anyone found issuing threats or trying to disturb peaceful co-existence will face strict legal action without exception.

The government also appealed to the public to report any case of threat, extortion, coercion, or suspicious activity to the nearest police station. Officials assured that all genuine complaints will be acted upon quickly, especially those involving threats to people’s lives and properties. The State had earlier set up an Anti-Extortion Cell under the Home Department. A toll-free helpline — 1800 202 3326 — is available round the clock, and the identity of the person giving information will remain confidential.

The government urged citizens to stand together against unlawful elements. It said cooperation from the public is essential for restoring peace, harmony, and public order in the State. The statement added that united efforts will help bring Manipur back on the path of stability, growth, and development.
