In a major move to maintain law and order, Manipur police successfully arrested four active militants in coordinated operations carried out across Thoubal and Imphal districts on October 25. The arrested individuals were reportedly linked to proscribed insurgent groups PREPAK (Pro), KCP (Taibang Nganba), and KYKL, authorities said.
In Thoubal district, police apprehended two members of PREPAK (Pro) from different locations. Rajkumar Navy Meitei, 32, from Wangjing Hodamba, was arrested at Wangjing Bazar, while Thongam Ronaldo Singh, 27, of Lilong Arapti in Imphal East, was detained at Lilong Bazar. Both individuals are alleged to have been involved in extortion activities targeting residents and businesses in the Wangjing area. During the operation, security forces recovered a 36 HE hand grenade and two mobile phones from their possession, indicating the potential for violent activities.
In Imphal East district, another operation near JNIMS, Porompat Ayangpalli Road, led to the arrest of 67-year-old Huyam Rameshwor Singh, also known as Yaima or Tayai. He is reportedly affiliated with KCP (Taibang Nganba). Authorities seized a mobile phone from him during the operation, which is expected to assist in further investigations.
Meanwhile, in Imphal West district, police arrested Hemarjit Leishangthem, 31, alias Lalu, a KYKL operative, from his residence at Leishangthem Leikai in Singjamei. At the location, security personnel recovered a mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, and an Airtel Airfiber device.
