Manipur Police have intensified intelligence-based combing and search operations across the state after a series of major recoveries and arrests linked to illegal weapons and insurgent activities. As part of these operations, police seized an improvised long-range rocket packed with nearly 40 kilograms of explosive in Churachandpur district and also arrested an active cadre of the KCP (PWG).

Police confirmed that the explosive-laden rocket was recovered earlier this month from Gelmol village in Churachandpur. The device, found on November 11, came with a launching stand and a battery, suggesting that it was fully prepared for deployment. Officers said the recovery is one of the largest in recent months and shows the kind of high-impact weapons still being moved around in certain pockets of the state.

The intensified operations are being carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. Security teams have been conducting cordon-and-search drives in both hill and valley districts to identify movement of insurgent groups and hidden weapon stockpiles.

In an important breakthrough on November 24, Manipur Police arrested an active member of the KCP (PWG) from the Chandranadi Lamkhai area under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West. The arrested individual has been identified as 23-year-old Ronaldo Thoudam, also known as Lamjingba, a resident of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai. Police said the arrest is expected to help in further investigation into the activities of the outfit and its local networks.

The broader crackdown has led to several other recoveries during joint operations over the past weeks. In Kangpokpi district, a large cache of arms was found near Songlung village. The seized items included a German-made rifle, two bolt-action rifles, four pull-mechanism rifles, an improvised mortar, hand grenades, detonators and a radio communication set. Officers said these findings point to the presence of both sophisticated and improvised weapons in circulation.

Another operation in the Gelbung jungle resulted in the recovery of additional arms and equipment. Police recovered a CMG carbine, a .303 rifle, two pistols, nine bolt-action rifles, a country-made SBBL gun, a locally assembled grenade, plastic explosives and several communication devices. Officials said the variety of weapons indicates that insurgent groups continue to rely on hidden forest bases to store their supplies.
