The Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MSAD) has strongly condemned recent claims made by the Dehradun Police Department in connection with the murder of MBA student Anjel Chakma. The association said it was deeply concerned by reports that one of the accused was casually described as a “Manipuri” without proper verification.

In a statement issued on December 31, 2025, MSAD said that such comments were irresponsible and misleading, as they could wrongly link an entire community to a criminal case that is still under investigation. The association stated that the identity of any accused person must be confirmed only through transparent and lawful procedures, and not through unverified references.

MSAD said the use of the word “Manipuri” in public communication appeared to shift attention away from the seriousness of the crime. It warned that such statements may harm communities and increase communal misunderstanding. According to the association, this kind of narrative risks dragging innocent people into the controversy and may affect the demand for justice.

The Delhi-based student organisation said there was no justification for making community-based references without proper verification. It appealed to the authorities handling the case to place only factual and confirmed information in the public domain and to avoid sensational remarks.

MSAD placed three key demands. These include:

An impartial, transparent and time-bound investigation.

An end to speculative and misleading statements that divide communities.

Accountability for any attempt to misinform the public or weaken the pursuit of justice.

The association expressed solidarity with the demand for justice for Anjel Chakma and said that justice cannot be achieved through rumours or unverified accusations. It said the focus must remain on the crime itself and truth must be established responsibly.
