Amid continuing political uncertainty in Manipur, senior leaders and MLAs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met in New Delhi on Sunday to discuss the situation in the state, with a focus on restoring peace, pushing development, and exploring the possibility of forming a government.
The meeting of the BJP Manipur Legislature Party was held at the party’s national headquarters in the national capital. It was attended by BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh and the party’s North East coordinator Sambit Patra. More than 30 BJP MLAs from Manipur were present at the meeting, including two legislators from the Kuki-Zo community, sources said.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule following prolonged ethnic violence that has affected several districts of the state over the past two years. The unrest has led to large-scale displacement, loss of lives, and serious damage to public trust and normal administration. Against this backdrop, the political situation in the state has remained fluid, with growing speculation about the next steps in governance.
According to party sources, the meeting focused on a detailed review of the ground situation in Manipur. Discussions were held on the challenges facing the state, the need to restore peace and stability, and the importance of rebuilding confidence among different communities. Development issues, including infrastructure, livelihood support, and rehabilitation of affected people, were also part of the deliberations.
In a post on its official X handle, the BJP said that the Manipur Legislature Party meeting was held in the presence of B L Santhosh and Sambit Patra, and that the discussions centred on peace and progress in the state. The post described the meeting as an important step in the party’s ongoing efforts to address the situation in Manipur.
