A group of people today vandalised Christmas-related decorations and materials at a school campus in Panigaon in Nalbari.

According to information available, members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal reportedly entered the premises of St. Mary’s Centre in Panigaon earlier in the day. After entering the school compound, the group was heard raising slogans such as “Jai Shri Ram” inside the campus.

Witnesses said that items kept inside the school for upcoming Christmas celebrations were allegedly vandalised. Several decorative materials and other items prepared for the festival were reportedly damaged and later set on fire within the school premises. The incident caused panic in the area and led to a tense atmosphere around the institution.

Local residents said the situation escalated quickly after the group entered the campus. Apart from “Jai Shri Ram,” slogans such as “Jai Hindu Rashtra” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” were also reportedly raised during the incident. Staff members and people present nearby were left shocked as the materials meant for Christmas celebrations were destroyed in full public view.

The incident at the school was not an isolated one, locals alleged. Earlier in the day, Christmas-related decorative items displayed at several business establishments in Nalbari town were also reportedly burnt. Shopkeepers claimed that decorations put up to mark the festive season were targeted, adding to the growing tension in the town.
