Narayana Health steps into UK with major hospital group acquisition

Narayana Health has announced the acquisition of UK-based Practice Plus Group Hospitals. This decision marks a big step for the Bengaluru-headquartered healthcare group as it enters the United Kingdom market for the first time. The deal was announced on 31 October 2025 and reflects Narayana Health’s growing ambition to become a stronger global healthcare provider.

With this acquisition, Narayana Health gains access to 12 hospitals and surgical centres operated by Practice Plus Group across the UK. These centres are known for providing high-quality treatment in orthopaedics, ophthalmology, and general surgery. Practice Plus Group is the fifth-largest private hospital operator in the UK and performs nearly 80,000 surgeries every year. By bringing this network under its umbrella, Narayana Health has strengthened its international presence and placed itself among the top three healthcare providers in India by revenue.

According to Narayana Health, this move is closely linked to the rising demand for surgeries in the UK private healthcare sector. In recent years, many patients in the UK have faced long waiting lists and delays for medical procedures. The company believes this is an opportunity to support a growing healthcare market while staying true to its mission of affordable and accessible treatment.

Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, Founder and Chairman of Narayana Health, expressed strong confidence in the acquisition. He said the partnership is an important step because both organisations share a similar approach to healthcare. “The acquisition of Practice Plus Group hospitals and surgical centres is an incredibly exciting step for Narayana Health. Like Narayana Health, Practice Plus Group recognised that the majority of patients were struggling to access healthcare, while only a minority could afford costly private healthcare,” Dr. Shetty said. He added that both groups have been serving patients who fall between these two extremes by offering accessible care options.

Jim Easton, Chief Executive of Practice Plus Group, also welcomed the partnership. He praised Narayana Health’s reputation for providing quality medical care with efficiency and compassion. “Dr. Shetty and Narayana Health have an enviable reputation for high quality, efficient healthcare with a human touch and I’m excited about what Practice Plus Group’s hospitals and surgical centres can achieve with the commitment and expertise of Narayana Health behind us,” he said.
