Residents in parts of Assam are unhappy and confused as orange exports from India to Bangladesh continue, even while anti-India comments and abusive social media posts from hardline groups across the border are on the rise.

Locals in the Sribhumi district say the situation feels strange and uncomfortable. On one side, they keep seeing harsh messages and angry speeches from some elements in Bangladesh against India. On the other side, the regular movement of oranges through the Kalibari Ghat border point has not stopped. Many people feel this sends a wrong signal at a sensitive time.

The issue has gained more attention after the recent killing of Dipu Chandra Das, which has disturbed residents in the area. People say their anger and sadness have only increased since the incident.

According to locals, the export of oranges is being handled by Congress member Badrul Haque, who has reportedly been involved in selling oranges to Bangladesh for a long time at comparatively lower prices. Some residents feel that business interests are being kept above public emotion and national concern.

The matter escalated when content creator Sujan Deb Roy staged a protest at the border. He openly questioned why agricultural goods were still being supplied to Bangladesh despite the harsh and hostile tone being seen on social media platforms there.

Soon after, police detained Roy for nearly five hours. He was allowed to leave after signing a bond, following what sources say was the intervention of Assam Minister Krishnendu Paul.

Roy later told the media that he was asked to delete or change his social media post about the protest. He said he did not support continuing trade with Bangladesh at a time when hatred and violence were being reported there. He added that he strongly condemns the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das and believes trade should not continue under such circumstances.
