Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Guwahati today evening to begin his two-day visit to Assam, which includes cultural events and key development-related programmes.

The Prime Minister reached Guwahati at around 5.20 pm. He was received at the airport by the Governor of Assam and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with other senior officials. After a brief interaction, the Prime Minister left for his first engagement of the visit.

The main attraction of the evening programme was “Bagurumba Dwhoo 2026”, a special cultural presentation showcasing the rich traditions and heritage of the Bodo community. As part of the programme, more than 10,000 Bodo artistes performed the traditional Bagurumba dance together in a single coordinated formation. Artists from all 81 Assembly constituencies and 23 districts of Assam took part, making it one of the largest cultural events ever organised in the state.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Kaliabor at around 11 am. There, he will perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project, an important infrastructure project valued at over Rs 6,950 crore. The project aims to improve connectivity and ease traffic movement in the Kaziranga region.

During the same programme, Prime Minister Modi will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains — the Guwahati (Kamakhya)–Rohtak service and the Dibrugarh–Lucknow (Gomti Nagar) service. These new trains are expected to strengthen rail links between the Northeast and northern parts of the country.

After completing the Kaliabor programme, the Prime Minister will return to Guwahati by helicopter around 12.15 pm. He is scheduled to depart for New Delhi from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at around 1 pm on a special aircraft, concluding his two-day visit to Assam.
