Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs of the Assam Movement at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon on Sunday. This was the second day of his visit to Assam. The Prime Minister arrived at the memorial in the morning and offered floral tributes at the site.
The programme began with a cultural tribute. Twenty artistes performed the song “Swahid Pranamo Tomak”. The song is written by Sudhakantha Bhupen Hazarika and has a strong emotional connection with the Assam Movement. The Prime Minister watched the performance along with other dignitaries present at the event.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Minister Atul Bora were present at the memorial to welcome the Prime Minister. They reached the venue before the Prime Minister’s arrival. Security arrangements were made at the location, and many people gathered around the road to witness the visit.
Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister took part in the ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ programme. This event was organised on board the cruise vessel ‘Charaideo’ on the Brahmaputra River. It started at 9 am. For the first time in Assam, the programme was held on a moving river vessel.
The Prime Minister interacted with 25 students during the programme. These students were selected from 12 districts across Assam by the School Education Department. The students had been trained and oriented before the interaction. The Prime Minister spoke with the students about exam stress and shared advice on handling it. He encouraged them to study with confidence and keep a balanced routine.
After offering tribute at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra, the Prime Minister proceeded towards the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport at Borjhar. He boarded a special aircraft to travel to Dibrugarh. From Dibrugarh, he is scheduled to take a helicopter to Namrup.
In Namrup, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for a new unit of the Namrup Fertiliser Plant. This project is seen as an important industrial development for the region. Officials said the programme in Namrup will include a public meeting and other formal events.
