In Kokrajhar unknown miscreants tore down posters of late Assamese music icon and actor Zubeen Garg’s upcoming Assamese film “Roi Roi Binale” in different parts of the town. The incident took place late on Wednesday night. The film, eagerly awaited by thousands of people across the state, has already been generating strong emotional responses as it features the last work of the legendary singer, who remains the pride and heartbeat of Assam.

The posters were mainly placed by Zubeen’s admirers in the Courtpara area of Kokrajhar. According to locals and fans present at the spot, nearly fifty posters were put up on the walls in the locality just a day earlier. However, by late night, the posters were found torn, destroyed, and lying scattered on the ground. The wall near the State Bank of India (SBI) premises, which is covered by CCTV surveillance, was also targeted. Fans said that even the posters placed close to the CCTV camera areas were ripped apart with clear intention, which has raised serious concerns about the motive behind the act.

Residents who noticed the torn posters early in the morning said they were saddened to see such a disrespectful incident. For many, Zubeen is not just an artist but an emotion and a cultural symbol who has contributed immensely to Assamese music and cinema. People who gathered around the spot expressed that the act was not just vandalism but a deliberate attack on the sentiments of Assamese people who deeply loved and admired Zubeen.

Shortly after the discovery, Zubeen’s fans reached the police and filed a complaint regarding the matter. The police arrived at the location, inspected the torn posters, and started examining the area. A senior police official informed that an investigation has been initiated and CCTV footage from the surrounding area will be reviewed to identify those responsible. He assured that strict action will be taken once the culprits are found.

Local residents said that instead of showing respect, some people are trying to spoil the tribute moments associated with Zubeen and his contribution to Assamese culture. A supporter at the scene shared, “Zubeen dada lives in the hearts of the people. We listen to his songs, we grew up with his voice, and now we want to celebrate his last film with love. But these acts are painful. Whoever did this should be punished so that nobody repeats it again.”
