President Droupadi Murmu visited Manipur on Friday and paid rich tributes to the brave women who took part in the historic Nupi Laal movement. The President attended the 86th Nupi Laal Day observance at the Nupi Laal Memorial Complex in Imphal during her two-day visit to the state. She offered floral tributes to honor the women freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifice hold a special place in Manipur’s history.

Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla, several MLAs, and former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh were also present at the event. They too offered floral tributes and remembered the strength and unity shown by Manipuri women during the movement.

Nupi Laal refers to two major mass movements led entirely by women in Manipur during the British period. These movements were held to protest the exploitative economic policies and harsh administration of the colonial government. The women of Manipur came together in large numbers to resist injustice, showing remarkable bravery at a time when public protests were rare for women.
