The Government of India has appointed Prof. Amrendra Kumar Das of IIT Guwahati as the new Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University in Assam. The appointment has been approved by the Ministry of Education under the Department of Higher Education.
The order was issued from Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi on December 31, 2025. The appointment will remain valid till further orders from the government. The letter states that Prof. Das is currently serving in the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati. He will now take charge as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University as per the rules and statutes that govern the university.
The order has been signed by Joyful Z Khawzawl, Under Secretary to the Government of India. The letter was addressed to the Registrar-in-Charge of Tezpur University and clearly mentions that the decision carries the approval of the competent authority. 
Copies of the appointment letter have also been sent to several offices. These include the Registrar of IIT Guwahati, the University Grants Commission in New Delhi, the President’s Secretariat, and other key officials connected to the Ministry of Education. A copy has also been forwarded to Prof. Das for official reference.
According to the order, Prof. Das will perform his duties as Pro-Vice-Chancellor in line with the Acts, Statutes and Ordinances of Tezpur University. This means his work will follow the official framework laid down for central universities.
