Security forces in Manipur have stepped up intelligence-based operations across the state to clamp down on extortion and other criminal activities. According to officials, combing, cordon and search drives are being carried out extensively in both hill and valley districts, especially in vulnerable and fringe areas where movement of armed elements has been reported.
As part of these operations, security forces arrested an active cadre of the proscribed group PREPAK (Pro) on December 30, 2025. The arrested person has been identified as 41-year-old Yumnam Heramani Singh, also known as Malem, a resident of Itam Nungoi Mayai Leikai in Imphal East district. He was picked up from Keibi village under Lamlai Police Station during a coordinated operation. An Aadhaar card was also seized from him. Further investigation is underway to determine his role and possible links in recent criminal activities.
Officials said that such search and combing operations are being conducted on a regular basis to detect the presence of militants or individuals suspected to be involved in extortion, intimidation, or unlawful acts. The operations also aim to restore a sense of safety among residents who continue to live under tension due to sporadic incidents of violence and threats in certain pockets.
In addition to ground operations, the security grid across Manipur remains on high alert. A total of 111 checkpoints and Nakas have been installed in different districts. These cover both hill and valley regions and are meant to monitor movement of vehicles, verify identities, and prevent the transport of illegal weapons or materials. However, officials informed that no one was detained during checking at these checkpoints on the reported day.
Security arrangements have also been tightened along key highways. Authorities stated that movement of 233 trucks and other vehicles carrying essential commodities was successfully ensured along NH-37. Essential supplies continue to be escorted through sensitive stretches to prevent disruptions. Security convoys are being deployed in areas considered vulnerable, so that traders, transporters, and drivers can move safely without fear of attack or extortion threats.
