Security forces in Manipur have carried out another strong operation against illegal poppy cultivation and militant activities, as part of the government’s ongoing mission to make the state free from drugs and insurgency. The operation took place on November 2 in Kangpokpi district and is seen as a major step in the fight against narcotics under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

According to officials, the teams moved into Songlung village and the nearby areas of Lhangjol and Waphong villages, which fall under Kangchup Police Station. In these remote hill areas, security forces discovered large poppy fields spread across around 30 acres of land. The plantations were destroyed to stop the production of illegal opium-based drugs, which has been a long-standing concern in Manipur.

During the action, security forces also pulled down three farm huts suspected to be used for poppy farming activities. They found three bags of fertilisers and two sacks of salt at the spot, believed to be used for cultivation. In addition to these items, two burnt Gypsy vehicles were recovered. Officials noted that such vehicles are often used for transportation in remote areas where these illegal fields are grown.

Authorities praised the dedication and continued efforts of the security personnel who carried out the operation. They said that these actions show the government’s commitment to protect young people from the harmful influence of drugs and to stop the illegal trade that funds criminal groups.

Apart from the anti-poppy action, Manipur Police also made several arrests linked to underground militant groups. In another set of operations carried out on the same day, eight militants belonging to various banned organisations were arrested from different parts of the state.
