Syndicate row erupts: Himanta Biswa Sarma signals no ticket for Palasbari MLA Syndicate row erupts: Himanta Biswa Sarma signals no ticket for Palasbari MLA

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has indicated that Palasbari MLA Hemanga Thakuria may not receive a party ticket in the 2026 Assembly elections. The Chief Minister also said that another BJP leader, Himanshu Shekhar, will not be given a ticket either. He said that the Palasbari constituency will get a different candidate.

This development comes after an audio clip went viral, where allegations were made about a syndicate and the names of both leaders were mentioned. Soon after the clip spread, Thakuria and Himanshu Shekhar publicly said that they are loyal BJP workers. The issue led to open arguments among local BJP leaders and serious questions were raised about political influence and possible syndicate connections.

Palasbari MLA Hemanga Thakuria has also taken a strong stand on party discipline. He said that anyone tearing the BJP flag will not be tolerated under any circumstance. He said that such behaviour will not be accepted anywhere in Assam, regardless of the person’s profile or political connection. He also claimed that he has been associated with the BJP since 2011 and will never agree to a situation where a BJP ticket is given to someone who disrespects the party flag.

Even as he defended his position in public, the controversy continued to grow. Many party members are now closely watching how the leadership handles the matter. Some leaders feel the issue may harm the party’s image ahead of elections, while others believe that the Chief Minister’s stand shows the party’s commitment to discipline and law.

For months now, allegations have been raised that syndicates are operating in different sectors in the state. The government has repeatedly denied any official involvement. However, political discussions and debates over the issue have not stopped.

There have also been protests and gatherings in a few places connected to this controversy. Both Thakuria and Himanshu Shekhar have tried to clarify their stand in public statements. They have said they remain loyal to the party and deny any wrongdoing.

Despite these explanations, the Chief Minister’s statement appears firm. He said that no one facing such allegations will receive a party nomination. This has sent a clear message within the organisation that discipline and public perception matter.

The Palasbari constituency will now wait to see who replaces Thakuria as the candidate in 2026.

In simple terms, the controversy has created visible tension inside the BJP. The final decision will become clearer as elections approach, but for now the Chief Minister’s message is strong : the party will not support anyone linked to syndicate activities or actions that damage the party’s image, and party symbols like the BJP flag must be respected at all times.
