The situation in Sonapur has taken a serious turn as hundreds of people gathered late at night at the Zubeen Garg Samadhi Kshetra, the memorial site of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg. The crowd, mostly fans of the late singer was demanding justice and expressing anger over the slow pace of the investigation into his death.
Chanting slogans like “Joi Zubeen Da,” the people sang Zubeen Garg’s popular songs, including the “Mayabini,” in tribute to their idol. The gathering turned into a massive show of public protest with people insisting that the law must take strict action against those responsible for Zubeen Garg’s death.
Speaking to reporters, one devoted fan said, “We are even ready to die, but we want justice for Zubeen Da. We will not understand anything else; we only want justice; we don’t want anything else but justice. The people connected to the death of Assam’s beloved Zubeen Da must be punished by the law or the people of Assam will never let this go or forgive it.”
Another supporter added, “I loved Zubeen Garg so much that I came here to the memorial. Now, I want justice for him. We are here for justice. We will continue to fight for the rights of our people. Otherwise, no one will forgive us.”
The crowd also criticized the state government, particularly the BJP administration, for delaying the investigation process. Many in the crowd expressed frustration over what they called a slow and insensitive response demanding that the authorities speed up the process and ensure that justice is delivered soon.
The gathering lasted late into the night with people refusing to disperse until their voices were heard.
