The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) has hinted at a possible exit from Tripura’s BJP-led coalition if the Manik Saha government fails to fast-track the implementation of the long-pending ‘Tiprasa Accord’.

A three-member delegation from TMP, led by party supremo Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, recently met AK Mishra, the accord’s interlocutor, in New Delhi, urging immediate action on the commitments made under the agreement.

In an exclusive conversation with Northeast Scoop, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma said that while the party has not yet decided to leave the coalition, it will be forced to reconsider its position if the accord is not honored. “What am I doing with the BJP? We have this agreement, and if it is not implemented, then we will have to look at all outstanding understandings,” he said.

The TMP leader expressed cautious optimism, noting that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured efforts to resolve the matter. “We have waited for so long, so we will wait a little more. If the agreement is not honored, people’s interest will come first,” he said.

Pradyot also highlighted ongoing legal steps, revealing that a case will be filed in the Supreme Court over 38 pending bills from the Tripura Tribal Council that have not been cleared by the state government in the last 15 years. “Our issue is not with the government of India but with certain individuals in the state government who are blocking the accord. If they prevail, we will have to side with the people rather than remain in the government,” he added.

He further said that some state-level BJP leaders are opposed to granting full rights to the indigenous communities, which he said is a significant hurdle in implementing the accord. The TMP leader’s remarks underscore rising tensions in Tripura’s coalition, signaling a possible political upheaval if the state government does not act promptly.
