In the Assam Tourism Department recruitment scam, Nayanmoni Pamegam, the Tourism Development Officer of Sivasagar, has been granted bail by a special court. Pamegam was arrested a few days ago, which marked an important step in the investigation by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell.
Pamegam was apprehended from Silapathar after she had been absconding for several days. According to officials, she had attempted to flee Sivasagar to avoid arrest. The Vigilance team, acting on specific intelligence, conducted an operation to bring her into custody. She was initially held at the Silapathar Police Station for further investigation.
This arrest comes shortly after the detention of Assistant Tourism Officers Pranjal Bora and Ananya Borthakur. Both officers were already under suspension, with Bora posted in Nagaon and Borthakur in Delhi at the time of the alleged irregularities. The three arrests have intensified the probe into the recruitment scam, which dates back to 2012–13.
A total of eight officials have been named in the ongoing investigation, including Hiran Kumar Saikia, Mehzubin Begum, Saimin Mannan, Gautam Gogoi, and Madhav Das. Among these, Gautam Gogoi and Monalisa Goswami remain absconding as the probe continues.
Investigation Officer Rosie Kalita of the CM Vigilance Cell said, “The investigation is almost complete. We are just waiting to file the chargesheet. Nayanmoni Pamegam was on the run, but she has now been arrested along with the other two officers.”
The case had initially surfaced following reports of irregularities in the recruitment process within the Tourism Department. Earlier, then Director Monalisa Goswami had been questioned by the Vigilance Cell, along with Bora and Borthakur, during the initial stages of the probe.
