The Arunachal Pradesh Police and the Assam Rifles carried out a joint operation early Saturday morning that led to the arrest of a United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) [ULFA (I)] cadre from Namsai district in Arunachal Pradesh.
The arrested militant has been identified as Anupam Dohotia, also known by his alias Thousen Axom, a resident of Barekuri village in Tinsukia district, Assam. Police sources said that Dohotia was directly involved in the October 17 attack on the Kakopathar Army Camp in Tinsukia district, which had triggered tension along the Assam–Arunachal border.
During the raid, security forces seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition from the militant’s possession. The recovered items include one MQ rifle, 151 rounds of live ammunition, one bottle grenade, and one rifle grenade. The arms recovery, officials said, points towards possible plans for further militant actions in the area.
Dohotia was taken into custody and is currently being interrogated by the Namsai Police to uncover more details about ULFA (I)’s movements and strategies. Investigators are also looking into whether he had any local support network in Arunachal Pradesh or adjoining districts of Assam.
Over the past few months, security forces have intensified their operations in the eastern belt of Arunachal Pradesh and upper Assam, following reports of renewed ULFA (I) movements. The militant group, led by Paresh Baruah, has been active in pockets of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Changlang districts, often using dense forest areas and border zones as hideouts.
