The Kuki Inpi South-West Sadar Hills and the Kharam Vaiphei Village Authority have strongly condemned a violent armed attack that took place at Kharam Vaiphei village early on Thursday morning, an incident that has shaken residents and raised serious concerns over the safety of civilians in the area.

According to separate statements issued by the two bodies, the attack occurred at around 7 am when unidentified armed persons allegedly opened fire and triggered bomb explosions inside the residential area of the village. The sudden sound of gunfire and blasts created panic among villagers, forcing many families to flee their homes in fear.

Although no loss of life was reported, several houses were damaged in the incident. The impact of the attack was felt most deeply by women, children and elderly residents, many of whom were left traumatised by the violence that unfolded without warning.

Condemning the incident, the Kuki Inpi South-West Sadar Hills described the attack as a serious breakdown of law and order. It stated that such acts of violence are deeply disturbing, especially at a time when the state is under President’s Rule and security arrangements are expected to ensure peace and safety for all citizens.

The apex body said the attack has caused fear and mental distress among innocent villagers and warned that such incidents, if not dealt with firmly, could further destabilise the already fragile situation in the region. It urged the authorities to take the matter seriously and act without delay.

The Kuki Inpi demanded that the perpetrators be identified at the earliest and brought to justice. It stressed that strong legal action and maximum punishment under the law are necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future. The body cautioned that any failure to act promptly could encourage anti-social elements and lead to further unrest.

The Kharam Vaiphei Village Authority also condemned the attack in strong words, calling it a cowardly act aimed at disturbing peace and normal life in the village. The authority expressed deep concern over the use of firearms and explosives within the village limits, terming it a direct threat to the safety of civilians.

The Village Authority appealed to law enforcement agencies and the authorities in power to step up security measures in and around the village. It called for proactive steps to prevent a repeat of such violence and to restore a sense of safety and confidence among residents.
