Vote is people’s strongest weapon, stealing it is anti-national: Gaurav Gogoi Vote is people’s strongest weapon, stealing it is anti-national: Gaurav Gogoi

Congress Deputy Leader and Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha MP from Jorhat, Gaurav Gogoi today said that the right to vote is the most powerful weapon given to the people of India by the country’s freedom fighters and the makers of the Constitution. He said this right gives equal power to every citizen, regardless of religion, caste or community.

Speaking on the issue of electoral rights, Gogoi said that the value of a vote is the same for everyone, whether Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe. “The power of the vote does not change based on who you are. Every Indian has the same strength when they cast their vote,” he said.

Gogoi described the vote as the collective voice of 140 crore Indians. He said it is through voting that people express their rejection of tyranny, fear and intimidation. According to him, the vote allows ordinary citizens to speak against injustice in a peaceful and democratic way.

He further said that the vote carries the hopes and dreams of common people across the country. “The vote represents the dreams of the poor, farmers, labourers, women in villages, and the youth living in towns and cities,” Gogoi said. He added that voting is the only tool through which people can demand jobs, security, dignity and protection of their land and livelihoods.

The Assam Congress chief strongly criticised any attempt to interfere with the voting process. He said that stealing votes is the same as stealing power from the people. “Stealing the vote means stealing the power of 140 crore Indians. It means taking away their only weapon against injustice,” he said.

Gogoi also said that vote theft directly affects the future of the country. According to him, when votes are stolen, people lose their rightful claim over employment opportunities, welfare benefits and the protection of their rights.

Referring to the statement made by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, Gogoi said that “vote chori” is not a small political issue but a serious attack on democracy. He said Rahul Gandhi has rightly called vote theft “the single most anti-national action planned in the history of modern India.”

Gogoi said that democracy survives only when elections are free, fair and transparent. He added that the Congress party will continue to raise its voice to protect the constitutional right of every Indian citizen to vote without fear or pressure.

He appealed to people across the country to remain alert and aware about their voting rights and said that safeguarding the vote is essential to protect democracy and the future of India.
