Strong reactions have continued to emerge from Assam’s cultural and film fraternity following the filing of the chargesheet in the case related to the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg. Actor Ravi Sarma and filmmaker Rima Das have both expressed dissatisfaction with the findings so far and have called for full and complete justice in the matter.
Speaking to the media, actor Ravi Sarma said he was “not at all satisfied” with the chargesheet submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). He raised concerns over what he described as missing evidence and unanswered questions surrounding the final moments of Zubeen Garg’s life.
“I still want answers. Several videos had come out earlier during the investigation. I want to see the final video. As Zubeen’s friend and also as someone who admires him deeply, I have the right to know what exactly happened in his last moments,” Sarma said.
He added that many doubts raised by people even before the investigation began have now been proved correct. According to him, the case highlights serious negligence. “What we had alleged before the investigation has been proven correct. Ignoring a drowning man, even when someone has the ability to save him, is nothing but criminal negligence,” he remarked.
Ravi Sarma also expressed discomfort over reports suggesting that Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Garg, has accepted the SIT chargesheet. “I have heard that Garima has accepted the chargesheet. Personally, I am not happy with this, and I am not satisfied,” he said, while maintaining that he was speaking from his own conscience and concern for justice.
Filmmaker Rima Das also spoke about the issue, stressing that the demand for justice goes beyond individual opinions. She said that people may have different views, but the desire for justice remains the same for everyone. “Everyone wants justice, even if views differ. From the bottom of our hearts, we want justice for Zubeen da,” she said.
Sharing a deeply personal memory, Rima Das recalled being present when Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains were kept. She described the moment as emotional and unforgettable. “There was scorching heat, then it rained, and later a rainbow appeared. I captured that moment on my phone. It was something very difficult to explain, something that touched the soul,” she said.
Rima Das also underlined the importance of faith in the justice system. “If Zubeen does not get justice, then what will we believe in? That is why it is important for everyone to continue to have faith in the justice delivery system,” she added.
