Senior Director General of Police (SDGP) Munna Prasad Gupta, chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the mysterious death of popular singer Zubeen Garg, addressed the media today following his return from Singapore.
Gupta said that on October 21, two SIT officers had visited Singapore and held a meeting with a five-member team of the Singapore Police. The meeting focused on exchanging information and coordinating legal assistance for the ongoing investigation. According to Gupta, the discussions were productive, and Singapore authorities have assured full cooperation in the case.
During their visit, the SIT officers examined locations relevant to the case and obtained a copy of the post-mortem report. The report will be officially submitted through the Indian High Commission. Gupta also said that CCTV footage from key areas and witness statements will be collected within the next 10 days. “Singapore Police will record statements of NRIs from Assam living in Singapore and provide the full official report within 90 days,” he said. Once submitted, the Singapore Police will continue to coordinate with Assam Police for further action.
Addressing questions about Zubeen Garg’s personal security officers, Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Bora, Gupta revealed that significant monetary transfers have been found in their accounts. “These transactions are being examined under the Prevention of Corruption Act for disproportionate assets. The Chief Minister’s Vigilance team is handling this aspect due to the large sums involved,” he added.
Gupta also noted that 70 individuals have already provided statements to the SIT so far. He indicated that Assamese citizens in Singapore, particularly members of the Assam Association, may be contacted again for further statements if needed.
