The sudden death of Assam’s music icon Zubeen Garg has taken a new turn, with his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, claiming that the singer may have been forced into water against medical advice. In an interview with a national media, Garima raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death, which has shocked the state and his fans across the country.
“The doctor had advised him not to swim and to stay away from water,” Garima said. She pointed out that since Zubeen’s first seizure in 2020, several people close to him, including Siddhartha, Shyamkanu Mahanta, and Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, were fully aware of his medical condition and the precautions he needed to follow.
Garima also questioned why Amritprabha Mahanta, who was reportedly filming videos that have since gone viral, did not inform the family or the police about what happened. “That day I think he was forcefully taken to the water…because he didn’t even change the clothes he was wearing the previous night,” she said.
On October 1, authorities arrested musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and singer Amritprabha Mahanta in connection with Zubeen Garg’s death. Both had been under interrogation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for six days before the arrests. According to sources, both suspects were reportedly in Singapore at the time of Zubeen’s passing—a detail investigators are scrutinizing closely to determine their involvement.
