Deadline ends, but none of Zubeen Garg’s Singapore associates appear before SIT Deadline ends, but none of Zubeen Garg’s Singapore associates appear before SIT

The deadline set by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the appearance of Singapore-based associates linked to the mysterious death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg ended today. However, none of the individuals summoned have turned up for questioning, raising concerns about the pace and cooperation in the ongoing investigation.

Despite repeated notices and reminders, not a single person among those called by the SIT has appeared before the investigation team. The final date for appearance was fixed for October 6, but officials confirmed that the team has not received any response or cooperation from the individuals so far.

The SIT had summoned several people who were reportedly present in Singapore at the time of the incident. Those named include Tanmoy Phukan, Abhimanyu Talukdar, Debojyoti Hazarika, Rupkamal Kalita, Siddharth Bora, Parikshit Sharma, Sudipta Chatterjee, and Bazid Ahmed. These individuals were believed to have been in contact with Zubeen Garg during his stay in Singapore, where the tragic incident occurred.

Officials said that the non-cooperation of these key individuals has created serious obstacles for the team. “Some of them have cited personal reasons or travel issues, but most have not responded at all,” a senior officer said. The SIT believes that their statements are crucial for establishing the sequence of events leading to Zubeen Garg’s untimely death.

Sources within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) stated that continued silence from these witnesses could hamper the progress of the investigation. The SIT is now reviewing legal options, which may include issuing fresh summons or taking stricter legal measures against those ignoring repeated notices.

A CID official added that the team has been working under immense pressure due to growing public interest and emotional reactions across Assam. “People want answers, and for that, the cooperation of witnesses is very important. Without their statements, several aspects of the case remain unclear,” the source said.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the matter publicly, explaining the limitations of the state government in bringing back those currently residing abroad. “This is entirely up to them,” the Chief Minister said. “The Assam government cannot bring anyone back to the state by force. We will have to coordinate with their parents to ensure their return. Assam Police cannot go to Singapore and arrest them; we must follow proper legal and diplomatic channels.”
