In Arunachal Pradesh, Tenzing Yangki from Tawang has become the first woman from the state to join the Indian Police Service (IPS). Her remarkable achievement has brought immense pride to the people of Arunachal and has inspired many young women across the Northeast to dream big and work hard for their goals.
Yangki secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 545 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022. With this outstanding performance, she has broken a long-standing barrier in the state’s civil services journey. For decades, while many male officers from Arunachal have joined the IAS and IPS, no woman from the state had yet reached this level — until now.
Hailing from Tawang, known for its cultural heritage and scenic beauty, Yangki’s journey to the IPS was not an easy one. It required years of dedication, discipline, and determination. Friends and teachers describe her as a quiet yet determined student who always believed in the power of hard work over shortcuts. Her success is being celebrated not only in her hometown but across the state, where social media platforms are flooded with congratulatory messages and proud expressions from citizens.
