A devastating fire broke out in Borghuli Market at Nisha, Kaliabor, late on Thursday (October 23) night, reducing four shops to ashes and causing property damage estimated at around Rs 30 lakh.
According to preliminary reports, the fire is suspected to have started due to an electrical short circuit.
Within minutes, the flames spread rapidly, engulfing two grocery shops, a fair-price store, and a tailoring shop. Local residents rushed to the scene in an attempt to douse the flames but were unable to control the blaze.
Fire tenders from Kaliabor and Ambagan were called in and managed to bring the situation under control after several hours of continuous effort. Their prompt response prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent shops and nearby houses.
No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident. However, the affected shop owners suffered heavy financial losses as most of their goods and property were completely destroyed.
