Gogoi vs Sarma: Congress President promises land security and change in Assam Gogoi vs Sarma: Congress President promises land security and change in Assam

Assam Pradesh Congress President and Member of Parliament Gaurav Gogoi today stated that he is not afraid of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Speaking to journalists in Maibang during a visit to the Dima Hasao district, Gogoi said that the Congress is confident and ready to take on the ruling party in the upcoming assembly elections.

Gogoi was in Maibang for a worker’s meeting of the Dima Hasao district Congress, where local issues and election strategies were discussed. “We are not afraid of anyone,” he emphasized. He added that the Congress will first focus on capturing Dispur and then aim to take control of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council. Plans are also being made to organize a booth-level gathering in Dima Hasao in the coming days, where Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are expected to participate.

Commenting on the recent National Democratic Alliance’s big win in Bihar, Gogoi said, “People of Bihar will vote in Bihar, and people of Assam will vote in Assam.” He highlighted that voters across Assam, including communities like Dimasa, Bodo, Karbi, Rabha, Mising, Gorkha, and Bengali, will have their say in the elections. He stated firmly that this time, Assam’s people want to end the “autocratic rule” of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Gogoi criticized the current government, saying that under CM Sarma, 40,000 bighas of tribal land were given to big corporate houses like Ambani, Adani, and Dalmia. “Tribal people are left without land security,” he said. He also mentioned that if Congress forms the government in Assam, it will focus on public service, land protection, and industrial development in Dima Hasao.

The Congress leader further criticized the recent delimitation of assembly constituencies, saying it disappointed tribal communities. He accused the Chief Minister of sidelining tribal leaders like Devalal Garlacha and Tuliram Ronghang to consolidate power, similar to past actions against leaders like Promod Bodo and Hagram Mahil. “Under Himanta Biswa Sarma, tribal people in Assam will not get their land rights,” Gogoi warned.

Responding to previous remarks made by the Chief Minister against him, Gogoi said that the allegations were false but that he is not afraid. “Neither I nor the people of Assam fear him anymore,” he added, claiming that even BJP leaders in Delhi and Assam no longer trust CM Sarma.

During his two-day tour of Dima Hasao district, Gogoi visited the Haflong Civil Hospital, participated in the “Vote Thief – Seat Thief Signature Campaign,” and attended the worker’s meeting in Maibang before leaving for Guwahati.
