Assam Congress President and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi today criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for sidelining both former and present leaders of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) during a worker’s meeting organized by the Dima Hasao District Congress in Maibang. Gogoi addressed the local issues of Dima Hasao and assured the people that the Congress is determined to move forward without fear and win the upcoming Assembly elections.
“Today, we heard the problems of the people here. We told them clearly that we are not afraid of anyone. We will move ahead and work to win the next elections,” Gogoi said.
He announced a grand tribal gathering where all tribal committees will be prepared for active participation. Leaders like Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi are expected to attend. Communities from Assam including Dimasa, Boro, Rabha, Karbi, Ahom, Moran, Motok, OBC, Bengali, Hindi-speaking and Gorkha will participate fully, along with people from Bihar in their state gatherings. The aim, Gogoi said, is to end Himanta Biswa Sarma’s rule and bring a Congress government that serves the people and protects their land.
Gogoi accused Sarma of failing to protect tribal communities in Assam under council policies. He said, “Our goal is that when Congress comes to power, council policies will prioritize local industries and the real welfare of the people.” He also reminded the people that when Rahul Gandhi visited regarding Article 244A, many had high hopes, but his later absence caused disappointment. The recent delimitation in Assam, carried out by Sarma’s close minister Ashok Singhal, has also left many tribal and local communities unhappy.
Gogoi criticized Sarma for giving council lands to major corporations such as Adani and Ambani while marginalizing real tribal leaders. “Hagrama Mohilary was used and discarded and Ramakanta Deori faced mistreatment as a legislator. This shows how tribal leaders are sidelined,” Gogoi said.
He warned that as long as Himanta Biswa Sarma remains in power, tribal issues, land rights, and leadership will not get the respect they deserve. “He manipulates situations, ignores people’s concerns and harms genuine tribal interests. The people here are aware of his actions and will not remain silent,” Gogoi added.
