The Special Investigation Team that has been looking into the death of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore has said that it will file the chargesheet on December 12. The announcement was made on Friday by SIT head and Special Director General of Police, Munna Prasad Gupta, during a press conference held at the CID office in Ulubari, Guwahati.

Gupta told reporters that a case bearing number 18/2025 was registered in connection with the death of the singer. He said that most parts of the investigation have already been completed and the chargesheet is now being prepared. According to him, once the chargesheet is filed, all investigation details will be placed before the court.

The SIT chief also said that seven people have been arrested so far in this case. He further said that more than 300 witnesses have been examined during the investigation process. The police have also collected several documents and statements related to the events that happened on the day of the incident.

It may be recalled that Zubeen Garg, who was known to fans as the “People’s Artist of Assam”, passed away on September 19 this year. He reportedly died under mysterious circumstances while swimming at a beach in Singapore. His sudden death caused a huge shock across Assam and also among Assamese communities living in India and abroad.

Soon after the incident, the SIT arrested seven people, including North East Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta and manager Siddharth Sharma. The case has drawn wide attention in Assam, and many people have been demanding a full and clear investigation so that all facts related to the singer’s death can come out in the open.
