The All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) has urged the Assam government to exempt Zubeen Garg’s final film “Roi Roi Binale” from entertainment tax, calling it a gesture of respect towards the late music legend who continues to live in the hearts of millions. The appeal came just days before the film’s much-awaited release, as emotions continue to run high across the state following Zubeen Garg’s death.
AAMSU president Rejaul Karim Sarkar addressed the media in Doboka on Tuesday night, where he said the government should have already taken a Cabinet decision to waive the entertainment tax. He stressed that people from every section of society should be able to watch Zubeen’s last film without being burdened by ticket costs. “Every person in Assam wants to watch this film. The poor should not be deprived because of ticket prices. The government should immediately exempt entertainment tax from Zubeen Garg’s last movie,” Sarkar said.
He further criticised the state government for not responding to the emotional appeal of the public. Sarkar pointed out that the demand for a tax exemption had already been raised by fans and well-wishers across Assam, yet the government has remained silent. “It is unfortunate that even now the government has not acted. This film is not just a movie—it is an emotion for the people of Assam,” he added.
