The Special Judge’s Court today granted bail to Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora, who had been arrested on September 15 in connection with a case of possessing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
Bora, who was serving as the Circle Officer of Goroimari in Kamrup district at the time of her arrest, appeared before the court with her lawyer, Advocate Bijan Mahajan. Following the bail hearing, the court allowed her release on certain conditions.
The case against Bora followed a detailed investigation by the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell, which had placed her under surveillance for almost six months after receiving allegations of corrupt land dealings. During this period, officials closely monitored her financial transactions and properties.
During raids conducted by the vigilance team, officials seized ₹92 lakh in cash and jewellery valued at nearly ₹1 crore from Bora’s residence in Guwahati. In addition, ₹10 lakh in cash was recovered from her rented accommodation in Barpeta district.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier said that Bora was under watch due to suspicions of transferring Hindu-owned land to individuals with questionable backgrounds in exchange for monetary benefits during her tenure as Circle Officer in Barpeta. The case highlighted concerns over misuse of official position and irregular land transactions in the state.
