The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has issued a show cause notice to former MLA Anwar Hussain Laskar, asking him to explain certain remarks he recently made during media interactions. The party leadership has described those remarks as controversial and damaging, and has said that the comments have gone against the discipline expected from party members.
Laskar, who is currently serving as an executive member of the APCC, has been accused of making statements that the party considers irresponsible. According to the notice, these statements were not only critical but allegedly harmful to the image of the party. The notice further states that the remarks were seen as defamatory in nature, and that the party leadership had to take disciplinary steps to prevent further damage.
The notice was issued on December 6 and was signed by Bipul Gogoi, who serves as the general secretary (organisation) of the APCC. It was stated that APCC president Gaurav Gogoi directed the move after being informed about the former MLA’s comments. The party believes that such remarks could create confusion among party workers and weaken party unity at a time when issues related to internal discipline are being taken seriously.
The former MLA has been given a period of two days to submit a written explanation. If his response is not considered satisfactory, the party may initiate further disciplinary action. The notice clearly states that Laskar must explain why strict action should not be taken against him under the party’s rules.
