The environmental public hearing for the 1,650 MW Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh has been rescheduled from October 30 to October 28, the Arunachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board announced on Saturday. The move comes as discussions and concerns continue to surround the project, which has attracted attention from residents and students across the region.

Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri, Tasso Gambo, in a circular issued on Friday, highlighted the importance of local participation in the hearing. He requested that all residents likely to be affected by the construction of the project from the Siyum, Taliha, Payeng, Jaring, Daporijo, Gusar, and Dumporijo circles make it a point to attend the hearing, which will be held at the Menga Government Secondary School.

The Subansiri Upper Hydroelectric Project, a joint venture between the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Ltd and the Arunachal Pradesh government, has become a matter of public debate. Many local residents and student groups have expressed strong opposition, citing concerns over environmental impact, displacement, and the disruption of local ecosystems. Demonstrations and protests have been reported in some areas, with calls for the project to be stopped until thorough environmental assessments and community consultations are completed.
