Congress leaders in Assam have intensified their criticism of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and the state government, calling on party workers to strengthen their presence at the grassroots level across the region.

On October 24, a key session was held at the District Congress Party Office in Diphu, organised by the Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KA-DCC). Addressing the gathering, AICC Spokesperson and Assam Media Coordinator Onika Mehrotra laid out strategies to consolidate the party’s position in Karbi Anglong. KA-DCC President Raton Engti, Media Chairperson Charisma Rongpipi, and other office bearers were present at the meeting, which aimed at energising local workers and mobilising the party base.

Later, at a press conference, Mehrotra launched a sharp attack on KAAC Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, alleging widespread corruption in the council. She accused Ronghang of prioritising personal wealth over the welfare of local residents and described him as an “ATM” for Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, whom she called “India’s most corrupt Chief Minister.” Mehrotra claimed Ronghang had transferred 1.53 lakh bighas of land to business associates linked with the BJP, harming the interests of the local population.

Mehrotra also criticised the BJP for politicising sensitive issues, including the investigation into the murder of singer Zubeen Garg, alleging that the ruling party was exploiting the tragedy for political gain.

Highlighting the importance of unity, Mehrotra urged Congress workers to remain vigilant and committed to exposing alleged misdeeds by the BJP-led administration. She called on party members to work closely with local communities, protect public rights, and ensure that the voices of ordinary people in Karbi Anglong are heard and defended.
