When the first show of Roi Roi Binale began before sunrise on Friday, many people across Assam walked into cinemas with heavy hearts and hopeful eyes. It was not just a movie release. It was a moment many waited for, and it came with deep emotions, because the man who dreamt of this film, Zubeen Garg, was not here to see it himself. Still, it felt like he had come home.

Across Assam, cinema halls kept a special seat only for him. In some theatres, the seat had a white gamosa, a photograph, or even a cutout of Zubeen smiling, as if he had just walked in to enjoy the film he worked for so long. In Guwahati’s Matrix Cinema Hall, a sofa was arranged with his photo and gamosa. People stopped, looked at it quietly, and many could not stop their tears. It felt like Zubeen was sitting with his fans, watching his dream unfold.

In Dhekiajuli too, a large cutout of him was placed near the front row, making it look like the “King of Assam’s music world” was watching his own grand moment. People took photos, placed flowers, and paid respect. It was clear that Zubeen may not be alive, but his place in Assam’s heart has not changed one bit.

The film had its first show at 4:25 AM, something never seen before in Assam’s cinema history. People came out early, wrapped in sweaters and jackets, and stood in line before dawn. Inside the halls, lights dimmed, the film began, and some viewers silently cried. They were happy for the dream, but sad for the man who could not see it shine.

Roi Roi Binale is running in 94 theatres across the state, with nearly 456 shows every day. In Guwahati alone, 13 theatres are showing the film in more than 150 shows daily, starting from as early as 6 AM. Towns big and small have joined the journey — Mangaldoi, Tezpur, Bongaigaon, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Haflong, Diphu, Margherita, and many more. Everywhere, people are talking about Zubeen, sharing memories, and celebrating his life through his art.

The film is not limited to Assam. It is being shown in cities like Itanagar, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Ahmedabad. It proves that Zubeen’s name travelled far, and many across India knew his music and admired his passion.
