CID custody of Shekharjyoti, Amritpraba ends; Court hearing tomorrow

Sources say the CID is expected to submit a detailed progress report on the investigation during the court hearing and may request further legal action based on recent findings.

The Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) custody of Shekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprabha Mahanta, accused in the ongoing investigation into the death of popular singer Zubeen Garg, ends today. Both the accused are scheduled to be produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Guwahati tomorrow, October 17, as their remand period concludes.

Sources say the CID is expected to submit a detailed progress report on the investigation during the court hearing and may request further legal action based on recent findings. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues to follow a separate line of inquiry, questioning several non-resident Assamese individuals who are believed to have crucial information about the case. Some of their statements may also be recorded in court to strengthen the evidence.

Earlier this week, the CID had also produced Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma before the CJM Court, along with three other individuals. All were remanded to 14-day judicial custody. The proceedings were carried out under tight security, reflecting the high public interest surrounding the case.
