Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, has reacted to a series of recent political developments, including comments made by political leaders, debates around cultural events, and reports related to Tezpur University. Speaking to reporters, Saikia said that many discussions taking place in Assam are moving away from the real public issues that require immediate attention.

Saikia referred to remarks made by Prafulla Das and said that he did not expect such comments from a senior personality like Das. He stated that he was not in a position to know whether everything mentioned was entirely correct, but added that, in everyone’s work, some amount of dissatisfaction always remains. He said that such matters should ideally be discussed in a more careful way instead of creating new controversies.

While speaking about political alliances and different observations made by Akhil Gogoi, Saikia said that not every statement given by Gogoi should be opposed. According to him, reacting to every comment only increases confusion within political groups. He remarked that all parties would benefit if issues were sorted out at an early stage rather than prolonging disagreements in public. Saikia said that a quicker reconciliation would help both leaders and party workers at the grassroots level.

The Opposition leader was also asked about Akhil Gogoi’s recent indication that he may contest the next election from a constituency other than Sivasagar. Saikia replied that if such a decision is taken by Gogoi, then even he might consider a similar step regarding his own constituency of Nazira. He made this comment in a light tone while pointing out that political strategies keep changing depending on time and circumstances.

Saikia also reacted to discussions around the Post Malone performance in Khanapara, which drew major crowds and attention. When a question was raised regarding the event, Saikia said, “I don’t know who Post Malone is.” His brief response drew interest because the concert has been widely talked about by the younger generation in Assam as one of the biggest musical events recently organised in the state.

He also criticised the Chief Minister for commenting on issues related to singer Zubeen Garg and the Assamese film “Roi Roi Binale.” Saikia said he does not understand why the Chief Minister chooses to focus on such matters, adding that the government should instead concentrate on the larger challenges faced by common people.

According to him, Assam is facing far more serious difficulties, and those require urgent attention from the administration. He mentioned that instead of dealing with subjects that affect society and development, political attention is being diverted to topics that he described as unnecessary and sometimes even absurd. Saikia said that many families are struggling with daily problems, and that the responsibility of the government should be to address those issues first.

Speaking about the Tezpur University incident, Saikia said that the opposition party is planning to submit a memorandum to the Central Bureau of Investigation. He explained that the purpose of this step is to request a proper investigation into reports and complaints connected with the institution. He also said that when a matter involves public money and administrative functioning, there should be a transparent process to look into it, so that people do not feel that information is being hidden.

Saikia further remarked that the state should focus more on education, employment, and basic services instead of entering into unnecessary statements or disputes that only create confusion among the public. He stressed that the main task of the government is to work for the welfare of the people and not to divert time toward matters that do not improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
