In Kokrajhar, a late-night act of dedication by fans of the late Assamese icon Zubeen Garg has drawn attention and praise, after several promotional posters of the film Roi Roi Binale were found torn and damaged. The incident happened on Wednesday night and created shock and disappointment among his admirers in the town.
According to local fans, around 50 posters put up to promote the much-awaited film were discovered ripped across the Courtpara area in Kokrajhar. The posters were placed along the wall near the State Bank of India branch — a spot usually used for cultural and public announcements. When members of the Kokrajhar District Zubeen Fans Club noticed the damage, they immediately gathered and decided to fix the situation instead of waiting for daylight.
Throughout the night, the supporters worked quietly and patiently, putting up new posters in place of the torn ones. They said it was their duty to protect the dignity and memory of Zubeen Garg, especially just before the release of his dream film. Some fans explained that the film is not just cinema for them — it is an emotion and a tribute to the artist who gave so much to Assamese music and culture.
Police arrived at the location after receiving information from local residents and fan club members. Officers confirmed that CCTV cameras are installed near the wall where the posters were vandalized. The footage is now being reviewed to identify those behind the act. So far, no arrests have been made, but police say they are treating the matter seriously.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened in Kokrajhar. Earlier this month, a mural of Zubeen Garg near the Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station was also damaged by unknown individuals. That incident also caused anger among the public, who demanded quick action and respect for the legendary artist’s legacy.
