Congress MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi on December 6 questioned the organisation of the upcoming Post Malone Live Musical Concert in Guwahati and linked the matter with the pending issues surrounding popular singer Zubeen Garg. Gogoi said that the event has been fixed for December 8, but important cultural concerns connected to Assam were yet to be properly addressed by the state government.
Gogoi made the remark during a gathering in Dibrugarh, where the Indian National Congress started its preparation for the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Senior Congress leaders such as Pradyut Bordoloi, Pranati Phukan, Prithvi Majhi and Pawan Singh Ghatowar were also present. Party leaders said that this marked the beginning of their outreach programme in different parts of the state.
While speaking at the event, Gogoi asked who was organising the Post Malone concert and repeated that the Chief Minister should have clarified cultural matters involving Zubeen Garg before holding the programme. Gogoi said that such an important event should have been addressed more responsibly.
He mentioned that Congress would travel across Assam and hold discussions with nearly 60 ethnic community organisations. Gogoi said that the party wanted to listen to people’s concerns directly and prepare its election plans based on ground realities.
Gogoi again repeated that Assam was being governed like a monarchy and said that Congress wanted to return political decision-making to the people. According to him, the government should focus more on public participation instead of acting on its own.
On the question of alliances, Gogoi said that discussions were going on inside the party and that decisions would be taken after consultations with party workers and the public.
He also spoke about the demand for Scheduled Tribe status for six OBC communities and said that the current system created unnecessary hurdles. Gogoi said that reports and community documents should be accepted without complications.
Referring again to cultural issues, Gogoi also spoke about Vrindabani costumes. He remarked that if the government could arrange these items quickly during elections, then such items could also be kept in the Congress office in Barpeta for a few days.
Gogoi said that Congress would continue spreading awareness across Assam and pointed to the party’s campaign slogan, “People’s Congress at the feet of the people.” Party representatives said that complaint boxes and online options had been made available so that people could send suggestions and grievances directly.
