The District Magistrate of Baksa, Gautam Das, ACS, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), restricting public gatherings and certain activities in and around the District Jail at Nikashi. The order was issued on Wednesday following concerns about the possibility of unrest and breach of peace near the jail premises.
According to the official notification, the administration feared that an increasing crowd around the jail could disturb public order. The District Magistrate stated that immediate preventive action was necessary to maintain peace and ensure that no untoward incident takes place. The order aims to prevent any disturbance or chaos that could arise from large public gatherings or aggressive demonstrations near the jail.
The order specifically bans the assembly of five or more people within a 500-meter radius of the District Jail at Nikashi in Baksa district. It also prohibits the carrying of weapons, including sticks, lathis, daggers, spears, or any other objects that could be used for violence. Public rallies, processions, hunger strikes, dharnas, and slogan-shouting without prior permission are also banned within the same area. The use of crackers, stones, or any inflammable materials on the streets or towards pedestrians and vehicles has been strictly prohibited.
The order comes into effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice. The administration has made it clear that anyone found violating the prohibitory order will face strict legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
