Representatives of the Kuki-Zo community gathered in Guwahati today for the Nampi Conclave, jointly organized by the United Peoples’ Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organisation (KNO). The conclave concluded with the formal issuance of a consolidated declaration outlining the community’s political and constitutional aspirations.

The declaration emphasizes unity among the Kuki-Zo tribes and sets forth a structured roadmap for their political engagement with the Government of India. According to the document, a dedicated Working Group will be constituted to ensure continuous dialogue and coordination among the leadership of UPF, KNO, the Kuki-Zo Council, and other civil society organizations representing the community.

In a major step towards centralizing political efforts, the declaration states that all future political advocacy and community mobilization activities will be coordinated exclusively by the Kuki-Zo Council. Additionally, a Joint Political Movement Working Committee will be formed to serve as the sole representative entity for both UPF and KNO in all discussions with government authorities.

The conclave also reinforced longstanding constitutional objectives. The participants urged the Central Government to address the grievances of the Kuki-Zo people with immediate measures and long-term solutions. Central to the declaration is the reaffirmation of the community’s demand for the creation of a Union Territory with its own Legislature. The leaders pledged to pursue this demand with persistent political effort until the government formally agrees to it.

In a move to preserve historical memory and community identity, the conclave announced that May 3rd will be observed annually as ‘Separation Day’ to commemorate significant political and communal events in the Kuki-Zo history. The declaration reflects a commitment to both structured political action and community solidarity, signaling a new phase of organized advocacy for the Kuki-Zo tribes.

The UPF and KNO have highlighted that the declaration is not merely a statement of intent but a blueprint for coordinated action. Grassroots initiatives will be launched to unify the community in support of the constitutional objective of Union Territory status. The conclave also emphasized that this united approach is essential to ensure that the voices of the Kuki-Zo people are represented effectively at all levels of dialogue with the Central Government.
